God gave his creation free will, and people used this free will to bring sin into the world. Everyone has sinned and deserves to pay the price of sin, which is death (eternal separation from God in hell). God didn't want this for us, so he gave us his son to pay the price for us. When Jesus died on the cross, he paid the price of everyone's sins, past, present, and future. When you believe in him and repent, (turn away from your sins and to God), He gives you the free gift of salvation. This means when you die you can go to heaven and be saved.
